Memorandum of understanding signed by Adnan Z. Amin, Director-General of IRENA and Mohamed El-Ashry, Chairman of REN21
Abu Dhabi, 18 January 2012. REN21, the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century, and IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency, have announced the signing of a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Since the first GSR was produced in 2005, the analysis has become the most frequently referenced report on renewable energy business and policy, just earlier this year IPCC Special Report on Renewable Energy and Climate Change introducing it as the sole source gathering worldwide renewable energy data, for OECD and non-OECD countries.

While torrential rains fall down in Singapore, the 4th edition of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) was opened today by a key-note speech of H.E. S. Iswaran, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Trade and Industry of Singapore, followed by the Singapore Energy Lecture given by Nobua Tanaka, the IEA’s former Executive Director. SIEW2011 is convened under the motto “securing our energy future”, a topic that is high on today’s energy policy agenda in the aftermath of the Arab spring as well as continuing turmoil on financial markets.

Today marks the founding of Japan Renewable Energy Foundation (JREF). After the tragic events in Fukushima in March 2011, Masayoshi Son, Chairman & CEO of SOFTBANK Corp., one of Japan’s leading telecommunication company, felt the need to initiate discussion about a paradigm shift of Japan’s energy sector and initiated the creation of the Japan Renewable Energy Foundation.
