By far the world’s longest natural gas pipeline, the West-East Pipeline transports natural gas from the remote Tarim Basin gas reserve in the western border region of China’s Xinjiang province across 10 provinces to the Pacific Coast at Shanghai. Originally built to power the huge Yangtze River dam project, three large extensions of the pipeline have since added international connections to bring gas from Central Asia.
